Permanent mold casting offers many advantages over investment castings, forgings, welded and brazed assemblies, parts machined from wrought bar stock, and parts cast from sand molds and other casting methods.

Increased strength, consistent dimensional accuracy, higher copper conductivity, and greater savings are among the benefits achieved through permanent mold chill casting.

These advantages begin with product design. Permanent mold casting enhances design freedom by producing engineered components with near-net-shape characteristics.

Design engineers are not constrained by fabrication considerations such as the welding, bending or cutting properties of metal.

Representing a breakthrough in permanent mold casting technology, this part was deemed uncastable as one piece within our industry. Measuring over 23" (58.42 cm) long, this telecommunications part was manufactured in one piece at dramatically lower costs vs. fabrication. High conductivity pure copper (min. 99% IACS).

Holes and cutouts can be cast to size, or holes can be precast for tapping and reaming. Additional parts such as handles, screws and bushings are easily cast into the molded product.Other benefits are achieved at the tooling stage. Permanent molds can be tooled less expensively than many other manufacturing processes.

Additionally, Burnstein von Seelen molds are tooled from special metals which have quick cooling properties. As a result, molten metal poured into the water cooled molds begins solidifying near the mold surfaces and proceeds inward. This process creates a uniform, fine dense grain structure which adds overall strength to the products.

Parts produced by permanent mold casting are less brittle and more resistant to wear than parts produced by other casting methods. Moreover, while sand mold copper castings may achieve 80 percent conductivity, we guarantee a minimum conductivity of 97%, with some parts of the production run ranging as high as 103%. In fact, the conductivity of our high capacity copper casting are equal to that of drawn and rolled electrolytic copper products.

Permanent mold casting also ensures dimensional accuracy throughout the production process. Since the same molds are used for each casting, every part is identical. Surfaces are metallic bright, and can be held to 125 RMS finishes, which can eliminate the need for costly machining. The savings in labor and materials are significant.

From creative design to cost-effective manufacturing, Burnstein von Seelen's precision castings offer attractive advantages for many applications.
